Black Bean Burgers
I have been wanting to make black bean burgers for awhile now. Today was the day! I found a youtube video recipe that I really liked! These are baked, not fried in oil! I made them up as the video describes and added some more ingredients(left a few out too). I thought the burgers were a bit on the wet side before I baked them, so I wasn't sure they would work out. When they were done I was worried! I took a bite out of one of the crumbly ones and I was worried that my family would not like it. But I worried for naught! After dressing the burgers up, Kaitie was asking for seconds, and Andrew was asking why I don't make them more often! So this recipe is such a keeper!!! I love when my kids like what I make! Oh and you must make the chipotle mayo too! Mmm Mmm!!!
Ingredients:
- 2 cups black beans cooked
- 2 slices dry whole wheat bread crumbled into tiny pieces
- 1/2 green pepper
- 1/2 red onion
- 1 large stalk celery
- 2 mushrooms
- 3 cloves garlic
- 1/4 cup fresh cilantro
- 1 egg (optional)
- 1 tsp chili powder
- 1 tsp cumin
- 1 tsp paprika
Directions:
- Mash your beans in a bowl. Keep them a bit chinky.
- Use your food processor and process all ingredients and add them to your beans.
- Mix egg and spices, add to bean mix.
- Mix well by hand.
- Form flat patties and bake in a preheated 350 oven for 10 min, flip carefully and bake for another 10 mins. I made 5 very large patties.
- Serve with your fave burger toppings. ENJOY!
- 3/4 Cup mayo
- 1tsp Dijon Mustard
- 1/4 Lime squeezed
- 1-3 tsp chipotle sauce (or you can mince 1 chipotle pepper)
- A little garlic powder to taste
Watch this video to see how easy it is! My recipe is tad bit different.

Okay, you've inspired me to try bean burgers. I've been adding more beans and lentils to our diet, so maybe now my family will be more accepting of bean burgers. Thanks for sharing!
Sounds Delicious!! Thank you for the recipe...I switched my family to healthier eating about 6 months ago and it's nice to find some yummy recipes to try!
These look great! I've only had black bean burgers in restaurants and never tried to make them on my own. Thanks for the recipe.
These sound absolutely delicious - and good for you too!
That is so cool that your kids liked them. All I have to say is the word "healthy" for my boys to roll their eyes and to say "no thanks." Of course, I have simply learned not to say "healthy!" :-)
This looks so yummy! Especially that chipotle mayo!
sounds SOOO yummy! Thanks for sharing and linking up!
Oh I love homemade black bean burgers and these look amazing. Thanks for linking up!
I've always thought my kids would hate black bean burgers too... maybe I'll have to give it a shot!
Thanks for sharing!

These sound really soft and tasty versus the hockey puck frozen kind you can buy. I happened to have just made a pot of black beans and am going to try these. Thanks for sharing!
Hey Angie - Tried your recipe, of course changing it up for what I had in my cupboard! I made them with 2 cups kidney beans instead, a few less veggies (cause I didn't have that many on hand) and changed the spices to cumin, chili powder, oregano and garlic powder, and a little salt. They turned out so moist! I also put them onto a tortilla instead of bread, I thought you might like that since you have your own recipe. The kids had fun cutting them to fit the mini burgers I made for them! Next time we make tortillas, I will make a few burger sized ones too. Thanks for the recipe ;)
